The I-85 corridor in Greensboro is one of the most heavily traveled and frequently congested sections of Interstate in North Carolina. A key intersection along that corridor is the South Elm-Eugene Street area located south of downtown Greensboro.
One of the most congested sections of Interstate highway in North Carolina is a section of I-77 between uptown Charlotte and Mooresville. To address the imperative need to improve this section of highway, a public / private partnership between North Carolina Department of Transportation and I-77 Mobility Partners was formed to expedite construction of I-77 express lanes.
NC 50 is a highly traveled highway between Raleigh and Wake Forest. Maintaining the integrity of the highway bed and surrounding support is critical. Performing that work in a timely fashion to minimize traffic disruption was critical. The 2016 Category 5 storm, Hurricane Matthew, hit North Carolina hard as it traveled north along the east coast. The storm was the 10th most destructive storm in the history of the United States. Shoulders and slopes along highways were washed out throughout the south as record rains battered the area. Loss of slopes and shoulders compromised the guardrails that protect motorists from those slopes.
